Many people start their day with a cup of tea. Many of us also reach for a cup of coffee right after waking up, before breakfast. Is it healthy? A separate issue is whether we should drink tea or coffee in the morning, and a separate issue is whether we should drink anything containing caffeine right after waking up on an empty stomach.

Pooja Makhija – a famous nutritional guru and book author even said that you should not drink anything on an empty stomach except warm water. Tea, like coffee, can disturb the pH of the stomach and cause dehydration of the body, which is already dehydrated after a night. The expected caffeine kick is also not what we would like. Caffeine on an empty stomach can make you feel bad and irritate the digestive system. It is therefore recommended to eat breakfast before drinking the first tea.

Why not drink tea?

It is worth emphasizing that you should not drink tea for breakfast or other meals, because the tea infusion may limit the absorption of substances from the meal. Particular attention is paid here to iron, but this also applies to copper and chromium. Few people know that these last two metals are necessary for our health. Copper increases immunity and protects against osteoporosis, while chromium regulates the metabolism of glucose, protein and fatty acids.

It is worth drinking tea in the morning because it contains caffeine, which has a beneficial effect on our mood, concentration, and work efficiency. In addition, it contains numerous health-promoting substances that protect us against oxidative stress and cancer. It also increases our immunity.

What should the morning look like, as recommended by dietitians?

We should drink a glass of warm water after waking up, then eat breakfast and only then drink tea. Thanks to this order, we will be able to benefit from both the drink and breakfast. This will allow us to start the day healthily and in a good mood.
